Indonesia is the world's largest tuna fishing nation. A 2010 MSC pre-assessment of the country's tuna fisheries identified areas for improvement, including:

• Governance and management

• Institutional framework

• Research of stock status; fleet composition, harvest strategies, and bycatch

• Regulatory compliance
